The Board of Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario is excited to share that Fontbonne Ministries has joined the CHSO network of sponsored organizations. Fontbonne Ministries is a Toronto-based organization that serves vulnerable populations, seniors and people experiencing social isolation through several programs across the city, including: Fontbonne Place and Mustard Seed; Studio on the Hill; and Village Mosaic.
Fontbonne Ministries was established in 2000 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto to respond to a variety of needs within the community. After withdrawing from active involvement in the daily operations of the hospitals they established in the city – Providence Healthcare, St. Michael’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Health Centre (today’s Unity Health Toronto) – the Sisters discovered their mission of service to the “Dear Neighbour” was not finished. And so, the work of Fontbonne Ministries began. The organization is named for the Sisters ’ foundress in Toronto, Mother Delphine Fontbonne.
In 2021, the Holy See approved the Sisters’ petition to transfer Fontbonne Ministries to CHSO.
