Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario – Who We Are
Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario (CHSO) is a federally incorporated not-for-profit corporation with charitable status. Founded in 1998, CHSO provides sponsorship to 20 health care organizations originally established by seven Congregations of religious Sisters. These organizations collectively provide programs and services across the continuum of care in 10 communities across Ontario. CHSO has a renewed vision for Catholic health care in Ontario to ensure its continued value and relevance as part of a high-quality integrated health care system.
As sponsor, the Board of CHSO has some important responsibilities as the only Members (shareholders/ owners) of each CHSO member organization. These are known as “reserved powers” and include responsibility:
- To approve the appointment the Board of Directors and CEO of each member organization;
- To approve the administrative Bylaw of each member organizations;
- To approve any change to the member organization’s mission or philosophy;
- To approve any integration or merger; and
- To approve any major financial decision.
Governance
CHSO is governed by a skills-based Board of Directors and is guided by a multi-year strategic plan and vision – Healthy Communities and Care for All. The Board of Directors is expanding to enhance its overall skills and experience, and to promote effective succession planning. We are recruiting a new Board Director who has demonstrated leadership and governance experience, and a willingness to actively support the Mission, Vision and Values of CHSO and of Catholic health care.
Commitment to Mission
A thorough and careful selection process will ensure that the values and mission of Catholic health care are preserved and held in high esteem. CHSO welcomes persons of all faith traditions. There is no requirement to be Catholic; however, Directors are expected to have an understanding and commitment to Catholic health care. Collectively, Directors should reflect the diversity of the community and support the common core values of quality and compassionate care for those to whom we minister. This ensures the tradition of Jesus’ healing Ministry and that the legacy of the founding congregations is continued.
To complement the existing Board of Directors’ background, the Board is interested in hearing from leaders with any of the following experience profiles:
